Uri Geller



















Uri Geller is an Israeli Psychic, Illusionist, Magician and television personality. He is well known in the media for his illustrations of bending the spoon and other psychokinesis and telepathy effects.


Personal

Geller was born in 20 December 1946 (age 67) Tel Aviv, Which was at that time part of the British Mandate of Palestine. Geller is the son of Itzhaak Geller, a retired army sergeant major, and Manzy Freud both were jewish.

He is married to Hannah Geller, who was the sister of his manager Shipi Shtrang. It is stated that Hannah has helped secretly in Geller’s Perfomances.

He was a good friend of Michael Jackson.

Career

When he was 11, Geller’s family moved to Nicosia, Cyprus, where he attended a high school. During his early years he joined in Israeli Army’s Paratroopers Brigade.

Geller started to perform in theatres, auditoriums and in various places of Israel. He became known in the United States and Europe during 1970’s.

Geller performed various effects of Psychokinesis, Telepathy and Dowsing. His perfomances includes bending spoons, Making watches run faster or even stop and finding hidden drawings.

Geller has claimed that his powers are the result of paranormal powers offered to him by extraterrestrials.

The Opposition

Most of the Geller’s tricks and presentation were often criticized by some of the people including Magicians, Scientific Researchers and Skeptics. Most prominent among them is skeptic James Randi, who has accused Geller repeatedly of trying to pass off magic tricks as paranormal displays. He even duplicated Geller’s performances using stage magic techniques.

Even though of opposition, in the year 1975, Russell Targ and Harold Puthoff (both of them were parapsychologists) said that most of Geller’s performances were genuine.


At the time when the parapsychologists report went to public, many scientists and skeptics have suggested possible ways in which Geller could have tricked the scientists using misdirection techniques.

Testing Process

During his early years Geller allowed some scientists to investigate his claims. In 1974, A study by Stanford Research Institute conducted by researchers concluded that Geller has performed successfully.

In 1974, William E. Cox organized a committee within the Society of American Magicians to ‘investigate the false claims of ESP”. Cox was impressed by Geller’s performances in which he produced some positive results which Cox couldn't find no frauds. For Example, Cox held a robust key with one finger on a table and watched as it bent with Geller in view.

Geller is yet to be testified by two more magicians from the Society.

Publications and Media


He published his first autobiography in the year 1975, “My Story”.

Geller starred in the 2001 horror film Sanitarium, directed by Johannes Roberts and James Eaves.

He hosted a reality show named “The Successor” in early 2007, where the contestants supposedly displayed supernatural powers.

In July 2007, NBC signed Geller and magician Criss Angel for the show "Phenomenon", to search for the next great mentalist, where Mike Super won the title.

In January 2008, Geller began hosting the TV show “The Next Uri Geller”, broadcast by pro7 in Germany.

Geller Co-produced the TV Show Book of Knowledge, released in April 2008.

In October 2009, he hosted a show named “The successor of Uri Geller” in an Greek televeision.

Furthermore he had written 16 fiction and non-fiction books.
